GREETINGS FROM WEBCOMICS LAND: THE EMBEDDED PDF

Champion City Comics has produced more than twenty creator owned comics over the past four years, and I am very proud of the work we have developed. Our titles feature superhero stories, crime noir thrillers, tales of war, sci-fi adventures, and humor. Just click here to view our list of fantastic comics.

All of our comics are posted as embedded PDFs, which has annoyed a few readers. The embedded PDF has been the only major criticism I have read concerning Champion City Comics since we launched four years ago. When I started Champion City Comics, I thought that embedding a PDF would be the most beneficial and easy way to read our comics because embedded PDFs can be viewed via scrolling or in a book mode. Apparently, it is not loved by everyone.

I have embedded a short story below by Darrin O'Toole and Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj titled The Amazing Mister X. As you can see, it is possible to scroll down page by page to view the story. If the text is too small, one can click on the …

HANK SCHRADER FROM BREAKING BAD

Image
Kav's been watching Breaking Bad and decided to do a sketch of Hank Schrader. Dean Norris is the actor that plays Hank and he's fantastic in the role. If you've never watched Breaking Bad then you are missing out on one of the best TV shows of all time.

SUCCESS!

Image
Erik Roman and I have developed a script for a Red Devil story, which will be featured in our upcoming steampunk anthology. I'm not going to give too much away, but it will be set during World War II, and is going to be awesome.

KICKSTARTER MY HEART FOLLOW-UP

Yesterday I posted some thoughts about using Kickstarter as a funding tool for our upcoming steampunk anthology. A friend at work talked to me about my post and gave me some good ideas about pledge goals if we use Kickstarter. Hey, these posts definitely get people thinking about what's going on at Champion City Comics.

GREETINGS FROM WEBCOMICS LAND: KICKSTARTER MY HEART?

Image
As we approach our fourth anniversary at Champion City Comics we are planning our most ambitious project to date which is a 64 page full color steampunk anthology. An amazing creative team has been assembled, and we also have the very talented artist Steve Bryant on board to design the cover for our anthology. The steampunk anthology is going to happen, but how it will be delivered to the masses is becoming another question.

Initially we were going to create the anthology, and then develop a Kickstarter project to cover costs for publishing. Everything about Kickstarter appealed to me at first, but I then began to wonder if creating a Kickstarter page, making a promotional video, writing up a convincing testimony, and providing our backers with an ample supply of incentives was worth it in the long run. After awhile it seemed that we were adding more work to our anthology which made Kickstarter more of a nuisance.

I'm not here to rant against Kickstarter because creators have the…

STEAMPUNK ANTHOLOGY UPDATE

I'm working on my first steampunk script today and it will be a story set in The Red Deviluniverse. Last week, I met with artist Erik Roman and we mapped out a plan for a twelve page story full of action and suspense. What I love about writing for The Red Devil is the fact that it is set in a timeless universe where we could have a story set during World War II or the present.

Other members of the Champion City Comics community are working on their steampunk stories for our upcoming steampunk anthology. I'm aslo working with artist Ryan Cairns on a steampunk story set during the Civil War. I'm excited to be involved with these projects and will have more updates for our readers in the upcoming weeks.

TonyDoug Wright is the owner and editor of Champion City Comics. His webcomics include Dr Death vs The ZombieThe End of Paradise, and Day 165
.

STAR WARS FILIBUSTER BY PATTON OSWALT

Image
I really don't have anything interesting to post today, but I've decided to share with you a very funny video. Patton Oswalt stars as Garth on NBC's Parks and Recreation and delivers a fantastic filibuster about his vision of the upcoming 2015 Star Wars movie. I don't know about you, but I thought this was hilarious.

THE SPIDER BY BOB TOBEN (ADULT LANGUAGE AND VIOLENCE)

Image
Champion City Comics writer Bob Toben has returned with a vigilante tale titled The Spider. Bob's alternative comics style fits perfect for this story and we hope you enjoy. We are in the process of creating a link to this comic to Drunk Duck, so for the time being we are posting the images to this comic on the site.

You can click on the first image to start a slide show to view the entire comic.

SCARS BY NICK WRIGHT

Image
I was recently contacted by Nick Wright, an artist from England, and I am in the works of coordinating a horror project with Nick so we can utilize his talents. Nick submitted a video he created for YouTube which is taken from the speech made by the Joker during The Dark Knight. I really like this video and hope you enjoy it as well.

GREETINGS FROM WEBCOMICS LAND: FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE

Image
Every morning I log on to Blogger to check our website numbers to see what posts are generating traffic to our webcomics site. Champion City Comics averages 100 to 200 visitors per day, and the majority of those visitors are from the United States. The United Kingdom and Russia are second and third on our list of countries that brings us traffic. Russia is the most infamous of them all.

Blogger allows us to have our Champion City Comics page to be translated from English to another language, and the options that Blogger had available did not include widely spoken languages like Spanish or Mandarin. Blogger did give us the option of some other widely spoken languages like Arabic, Hindi, or Russian, so I decided to go with Russian. Why? One of my great grandfathers was from Russia, so I based the decision to use Russian based on family. Bad choice. Damn you, family loyalty.

This is nothing against the people of Russia, so don't get me wrong. My beef is with the Russian websites tha…

CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON BY ANAND KAVIRAJ

Image
Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj submitted this original of the Creature From The Black Lagoon and it is awesome. Enjoy your Thursday and thanks for checking out Champion City Comics.

MIDDLEBURRY

I thought I would share a webcomic that debuted at Champion City Comics last year. Middleburry was a superhero crime story that I was working on with an artist by the name of Beniamino Delvecchio. The story ended after a few pages, but I am looking for artists to continue work on this series. You can contact me at tonydoug25@msn.com if interested.

Writer: TonyDoug Wright

Art and Lettering: Beniamino Delvecchio

Overview: Charlie Moore is a skilled thief blessed with the gift of invisibility. Charlie steals cars, jewelry, and drugs and holds them for ransom and uses the money to pay the medical bills of his mentor. One day, Charlie steals a suitcase of drugs and soon discovers he stole from a very dangerous cartel.

CHAMPION CITY COMICS PIN-UP BY JOE HAEMMERLE

Image
Here is a cool sketch Joe Haemmerle did for Champion City Comics. We do have artwork for sale at our site, so check out what we have available. Take care and enjoy your Monday.

KAV'S SILVER AGE PARODIES: SUPERBOY AND BATBOY

Image
Champion City Comics artist and guru, Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj, has created another parody from the Silver Age of Comics. Today I am sharing his version of a cover for World's Finest Comics. Enjoy.

KAV'S SILVER AGE PARODIES: SPIDER-MAN

Image
Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj sent me some Silver Age parodies that he drew and the first one I am sharing with our faithful followers features Spider-Man. Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has been taken hostage by a giant Kav!  If you think Kav drew his own hand wrong then you are mistaken. I've heard the story of what happened to Kav's fingers and hopefully he tells us the tale in a Kav original comic.

WEIRD ASS SCIENCE

Image
Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj sent me a special comic book cover titled Weird Ass Science. I love it and check out this retro inspired piece of art. I got a kick out of the name on the sample jar. Could that be the author of Rapid City?

A WESTERN THEMED STEAMPUNK PREVIEW

Image
Artist Joe Haemmerle and writer Christopher Smith are working together on a post-apocalyptic Western steampunk story. I've reviewed the script and these two are working on a really good story for our steampunk anthology. Joe has submitted a preview of page one and I am excited to see how this story develops.

THE RED DEVIL AND STEAMPUNK!

Image
Champion City Comics is currently working on a 64 page full-color steampunk anthology that we will self-publish this year. We know you are excited and we will keep our fans posted on a regular basis. Champion City Comics team members are working on their projects and we even have Steve Bryant of Athena Voltaire fame on board as our cover artist. Do we have anything else to report? YES! Part of the steampunk anthology will include a brand new story featuring our super-sexy crime-fighter The Red Devil!

If you haven't checked out The Red Devil then click here and enjoy this pulp inspired action comic by TonyDoug Wright, Erik Roman, and Joe Haemmerle.

Synopsis: Dublin O'Darby (The Red Devil) is an international crime-fighter who works for Sebastian Coronado, the director of an organization dedicated to combating cartels of evil. Joining The Red Devil is teenage sidekick Charlotte Murphy (Kid Diablo). In the exciting first issue, Red Devil and Kid Diablo track down a dangerous nin…
