KAV'S COMIC DISCOVERIES: JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #87

Champion City Comics artist and comic book guru, Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj, enjoys reading comic books from the Silver Age of Comics. He loves to share some of the craziest panels ever developed for comics. Today, he has found some amazing panels from Journey Into Mystery #87 which is titled 'Prisoner of the Reds'. Stan Lee was the writer and Jack Kirby did the pencils.

Journey Into Mystery #87 was the fifth Thor comic, and we have this scene where Thor, instead of just busting out of prison with his hammer, spins around to create 'shock waves'.

The commies think he might be one of them since he carries a HAMMER. Then, Thor exhibits a new power where he creates blinding sparks from rubbing his hammer. Stan Lee used to give his characters one-time powers like this all the time, but DC Comics never did this because they gave someone a certain set of powers, and stuck with it.

Also from Journey Into Mystery #87 comes this panel where a scientist claims that Thor's tunneling prowess is 'scientifically impossible!'. Dude, if you want scientifically possible, you're in the wrong comic book.

KAV'S COMIC DISCOVERIES: THE SUB-MARINER

Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj continues to find some amazing discoveries while reading comics from the Silver Age of Comics. Today, Kav discovers some problems with Prince Namor (a.k.a. the Sub-Mariner) in The Fantastic Four #9. which was developed by the classic team of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

More absurdities from The Fantastic Four #9! We see Sue Richards protecting the Sub-Mariner who says, "You've never ganged up on anyone before!" HUH?!? The FF always 'gangs up' on their foes!!! A true WTF. Also we see the Sub-Mariner suddenly has 'all the powers of sea creatures' including the 'radar sense' of the 'cave fish'. Really? And there's a fish that emits RADIO WAVES? Does his body contain TRANSISTORS??? Another WTF. Then the final panel-the Fantastic Four movie comes out-even though the 'movie' was a scam by Namor to trap his enemies, and NO scenes were ever shot! WTF??? Stan Lee-you're KILLING ME!

CAPTAIN AMERICA'S BICENTENNIAL BATTLES: BARRY SMITH AND JACK KIRBY

Our resident comic book artist and comic book guru, Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj, made a great discovery while reading Captain America's Bicentennial Battles.

Ever wonder what Jack Kirby inked by Barry Smith would look like? Well now you know-courtesy of Captain America's Bicentennial Battles 1976 Treasury edition! Enjoy! Barry Smith inking the guy who influenced him-that must have been a trip!

KAV'S COMIC DISCOVERIES: THE HUMAN TORCH'S HEAT MIRAGE POWERS

Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj continues to find some amazing discoveries while reading comics from the Silver Age of Comics. Today, we have Johnny Storm (a.k.a. The Human Torch) using his heat mirage powers in The Fantastic Four #17 by the classic team of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

More Silver Age nonsense from Stan Lee! Did you know that the Torch could make moving flame copies of himself? In Fantastic Four # 17 he develops another power-the ability to make 'flame images', which are not flaming, but are full color copies of people. In this panel, he's made a copy of Doctor Doom. WTF?? YOU ARE KILLING ME, STAN LEE! KILLING ME!!!!

PS, another thing I have noticed in these old Fantastic Four comic books is the Invisible Girl hardly EVER uses her force field, when it would EASILY get her out of pinches. Like the Puppet Master grabs her and runs off, and I am thinking, "Dummy-if you used your FORCE FIELD he wouldn't be able to TOUCH YOU! Grrrrr....."

KAV'S COMIC DISCOVERIES: YOU'VE GOT MIND?

Comic book artist and guru, Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj, is a man on a mission. His mission is to find some of the most bizarre panels from the Silver Age of comics and share them with the world. Today, we have an interesting panel from The Fantastic Four #21, which was released in 1963 and was titled "The Hate-Monger".

KAV: Ok, here's a panel from The Fantastic Four #21. There are a couple of things that I want to talk about with this panel. First, let's talk about Ben Grimm's eyeball. On second thought, let's not talk about it. YEESH! Second, we see Nick Fury (No eyepatch???) insulting the Thing's intelligence when he can't even construct a valid sentence! Nick fail English? That's unpossible!

KAV'S COMIC DISCOVERIES: REED RICHARDS WITH THE BIOLOGY FAIL

Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj continues to find some amazing panels from the Silver Age of Comics. Today, we see that Reed Richards has earned a biology fail.

Kav's silver age discoveries continue! Here we see the so-called brainy Mr Fantastic claiming he has created a single celled organism, but he's holding up a multicellular critter with a body, eyes and appendages-someone should inform this brainiac that a single cell would be far too small to see with the naked eye, and would not have multicellular appendages!!!

KAV'S WTF?! COMIC BOOK COVERS: STRANGE ADVENTURES #79

Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj found a great selection for his WTF?! comic book cover collection series. It is Strange Adventures #79, titled "Invaders From The Ice World" which was published in 1959 by DC Comics. The writer was Gardner Fox, the pencils were done by the great Carmine Infantino, and Gil Kane did the cover art.

Check out this horrible synopsis via the DC Wikia: Two Iowan boys build snowmen during an unseasonal snowfall, only to discover their creations missing the next morning. During the night, the snowmen had been possessed by energy beings from the planet Pluto and were now wreaking havoc in preparation for full-scale invasion. Darwin Jones of the DSI soon arrives on the scene and after a number of unsuccessful attempts to destroy the snowmen with heat, realizes that their paradoxical weakness is extreme cold. Earth is saved!

KAV'S THOUGHTS: Here we go with another silver age wtf cover-and just in time for the holidays! We see invaders from space who are advanced enough to build space ships but still have to wear battered old crappy hats. I have to wonder what the hell kind of evolution would ever possibly lead to critters like this.

KAV'S COMIC BOOK ADS: THE AUTHENTIC SUPERMAN COSTUME

Comic book artist and comic book guru, Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj, has discovered a truly awful comic book ad from the past. Take a look at the dreadful Superman costume that was advertised in a comic book.

Comic book ads were known for their blatant LYING. Like the 'Fabulous Sea Monkeys' that looked NOTHING like the little humanoids shown in the ad, or the 'Polairs Nuclear Sub' which fired REAL missiles, plus you could use to SPEND HOURS ROVING UNDER THE SEA. Here we have an AUTHENTIC SUPERMAN COSTUME. Authentic because it has a MASK, PATENT LEATHER SHOES, NO RED UNDERWEAR, A SQUARE BELT, SHORT SLEEVES AND A TIE-ON CAPE - EXACTLY LIKE WHAT THE MAN OF STEEL WORE!

KAV'S COMIC DISCOVERIES: FORGET ME NOT

Comic book artist and guru, Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj, enjoys reading comics from the Silver Age and Bronze Age of comics and sometimes he makes some amazing discoveries. He made the following discovery a few weeks ago, and it is a doozy.

Here we see a scene from Fantastic Four #4, wherein Johnny Storm throws Sub Mariner into the drink, reviving his memories. He had been living as a hobo for years, yet I find it hard to swallow he never noticed the wings on his ankles or that he never changed his shorts in 30 years.

KAV'S COMIC DISCOVERIES: YOU FLICKER!

Comic book artist and guru, Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj, enjoys reading comics from the Silver Age and Bronze Age of comics and sometimes he makes some amazing discoveries. Look what he found last week.

Ok, I caught Dr. Strange flipping the bird and now from Strange Tales #114 comes an even worse infraction and a warning to all letterers-watch it when you letter words with 'LI' in them!!! Get a little too close and just look what happens to Baron Mordo's speech!!!! Yikes!
